Context

MIA Pet is an app for Miami International Airport (MIA) for people traveling with animals: each pet gets a digital ID with details, vaccines and microchip, which the owner shares with the airline and uses to check in at the airport's partners. The project was done at Ivy, where I worked as Senior UI/UX Designer across the app's entire journey.

Challenge

Traveling with a pet involves a lot of information: species, size, weight, rabies vaccine, different microchip types, whether the animal is an emotional support animal or a service dog, medical and behavioral conditions. All of it had to fit on a hurried passenger's phone, be filled in once and reused on every trip.

The journey, step by step

A light background, MIA blue in the brand and action blue on buttons, with a large title and one task per screen. The button stays gray while something is missing and turns blue when you can move on.

  1. 01 / 08

    Sign-in

A splash screen with the airport's brand, login with email and password or with Google and Facebook, and the filled-in state with the active field highlighted in blue.

  2. 02 / 08

    Create an account and verify

Sign-up with name, email, password and acceptance of the terms, confirmation via an email link and phone verification with a 4-digit code. The button only lights up when the code is complete.

  3. 03 / 08

    Complete the profile

Account details in four fields and the profile photo, with the choice between taking a photo or using the gallery in a panel that slides up from the bottom, and a "Maybe later" option so it doesn't block anyone in a hurry.

  4. 04 / 08

    Pets home

The owner's pets in stacked cards with photo, code and a "View ID" button; below, a banner rotating partner offers, the AI assistant and the MIA pin, and a feed of health tips. The "+" opens a choice between registering a pet or talking to the chatbot.

  5. 05 / 08

    Pet ID and full record

The pet card (photo, code, species, breed, sex and date of birth) with three actions: view the ID, share and check in. The record is split into blocks with a blue marker: spay/neuter, origin, size, weight, rabies vaccine, microchip (ISO 15 digits, AVID 9 and 10 digits), emotional support or service status, medical and behavioral conditions and files such as the CVI.

  6. 06 / 08

    Share with the airline

Four fields (airline, origin, destination and date) and the "Share pet id" button. The confirmation changes based on the record: for most, "Happy to have you and your pet at MIA!"; for a pet that needs attention, a notice to contact the airline before traveling.

  7. 07 / 08

    Partner check-in

"At MIA your pet is a superstar!": airport restaurants and cafés with discounts for those who check in with their pet, and check-in with the phone camera at the partner's spot.

  8. 08 / 08

    Account and settings

Profile with photo, personal details editing and preferences for notifications, language and unit of measurement, because the app serves passengers from many countries.

Visual System

A neutral, light base so the pet photos are the stars, the airport's brand blue in the identity and a brighter blue only for actions. The record blocks use a blue side marker to guide the reading of a long form.

Takeaways

A long form doesn't have to feel long. Splitting the pet record into blocks with one topic each, showing only what applies (the microchip fields open when the type is selected) and keeping the animal's card always at the top makes owners feel they're building their pet's identity, not filling out paperwork.
